Why Your Support is Needed:
Today, 1 in 110 children are diagnosed with autism... With proper treatment and intensive therapy, children with autism are able to make maximum gains and reach their full potential.

Autism is a complex neurobiological disorder that inhibits a person’s ability to communicate and develop social relationships, and is often accompanied by behavioral challenges. Autism Spectrum Disorders are diagnosed in 1 in 110 children in the United States, affecting 4 times as many boys as girls. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have called autism a national public health crisis whose cause and cure remain unknown. However, studies through the AAP have found up to 25 percent of children improve fully and no longer are diagnosed as having autism with proper intensive treatment. The Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders, a comprehensive autism program at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, directed by Dr. Jacquie Wynn, uses this type of intensive treatment that research has shown to give children with autism the best chance to reach their full potential. The Center also provides a range of other services to support the needs of children across the spectrum and their families. The cost of autism treatments and family supports are often not covered by insurance, and government funds are limited.
